One of the much-celebrated drummer and the founder of Cream took his last breath today at a hospital in the United Kingdom.

Drummer Ginger Baker passes away at 80

Mumbai: British drummer Ginger Baker, who was the pioneer of the rock band Cream, breathed his last on Sunday.

The legendary drummer was 80 at the time of his death. The reason for his death is yet to be revealed.

The news of his demise was confirmed by a tweet made on his Twitter page on Sunday morning.

The tweet read: "We are very sad to say that Ginger has passed away peacefully in hospital this morning. Thank you to everyone for your kind words over the past weeks."

Born as Peter Edward Baker, the musician was suffering from a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Osteoarthritis. He was also battling tough times with drug addiction.

Moreover, the legendary musician had undergone heart surgery three years ago.

Baker's last album 'Why?' was released in 2014.

Earlier, his band released four albums which sold more than 15 million records.

It propelled Baker's reputation as one of the UK's greatest ever drummers and solidified his international superstardom status.

The rock band Cream split after a couple of years. Despite it's split after just two years, Baker re-emerged in 1969.

Alongside Steve Winwood and Ric Grech, the legendary musician joined the duo as part of the blues-rock band Blind Faith.
