Shahid to essay Karna in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Mahabharat adaption?

Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor will be seen in character inspired by mythology for the first time if reports about him playing Karan in filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's adaption of Mahabharat are anything to go by. Tentatively titled as Karan, the film will be bankrolled by Ronnie Screvwala.

Hyderabad: Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor is all set to add another interesting role to his repertoire with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s next. The actor is said to be being approached for playing Karan in Rakeysh's adaption of Mahabharat.

After the success of Kabir Singh, Shahid has interesting projects lined up for next. While he is awaiting the release of Jersey, news of his OTT debut with Raj and DK's web series which is reportedly titled Gavar has left his fans in frenzy. According to whispers in the industry and a webloid report, Shahid is in talks with Mehra for playing the titular role in Mahabharat adaption.

As of now, it is not clear if the filmmaker will be approaching the project as a contemporary adaptation or will stick to its original mythological plot. The buzz, however, suggests that the story will be told through Karna's perception and the makers are keen to have Shahid playing one of the major characters from the epic, Karana, who was abandoned by her mother Kunti fearing outrage and backlash from society over her premarital pregnancy. For the project which is tentatively titled as Karna, Mehra has Ronnie Screvwala as the producer.

Meanwhile, Shahid will soon be commencing shoot for his OTT debut which will also feature Tamil superstar Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. The show will be shot at various locations in Mumbai and Goa. For the pan-India show, Raj and DK are aiming to project Shahid and Vijay in a never seen before avatar.
