Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand): A cloudburst took place in Mando village of Uttarkashi district early on Monday, wherein three members of a family were killed and four others were reported missing. The deceased have been identified as two women, rescue officials said, adding that a six-year-old child has also lost her life in the incident. Incessant rains had wreaked havoc in the district, which led to the clouds burst over Mando and Nirakot, causing a flash flood like situation which led to the debris engulfing 15 to 20 houses.
On getting information, the SDRF and a rescue team led by the police reached the spot. An elderly man who was trapped under the rubble was rescued safely. It is also learnt that a person was washed away in Kankaradi village of Bhatwadi block. At 8.30 pm on Sunday night, the heavy rains led to a major drain flowing in the middle of Mando village swell with debris and cause the destruction. At the same time, on receiving the information, SDRF and police team including SDM Bhatwadi and CO police and city Kotwal reached the spot in Mando village. This led to the debris enter into 15 to 20 houses in Mando village. Adding to the woes, the rescue team had faced difficulties in carrying out search and rescue due to the darkness and continuous downpour.

Fortunately, some people managed to save their lives having fled from their homes as soon as they noticed the rising water levels, else many people would have been drowned. In Mando village, the impact of the cloudburst was such that around 4 to 5 houses collapsed. It was here that the bodies of two women of Devanand Bhatt's family and a girl child were recovered by the rescue team. Meanwhile, 4 injured laborers who were rescued were rushed to the district hospital.
