AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the Taliban as a terrorist outfit saying that the fundamentalist outfit taking over Afghanistan will become a source of trouble for India, writes Bureau Chief Amit Bhelari.

Patna: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi has dared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare the Taliban as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

“India is the chairman of the United Nations Sanctions Committee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi must ensure this to the people of the country. If he has the guts, the PM should declare the Taliban as a terrorist organisation," Owaisi stressed.

Owaisi further said that Taliban taking over in Afghanistan will strengthen countries like Pakistan and China apart from becoming source of trouble for India as well in the future.

“I have been telling this since 2013 that the Taliban will become a concern for India. Despite that, our ambassador is meeting those people. In fact, the Indian government has spent Rs 35,000 crore in Afghanistan since the time of the governments of Vajpayee and Manmohan Singh to seven years of Modi's government," Owais said while being accompanied by AIMIM leaders of Bihar.

Owaisi also revealed his plan for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections due next year by declaring that his party will contest on 100 seats. He did not hesitate to announce that his party will give a ticket to Atiq Ahmad, a notorious criminal facing several criminal charges and currently behind bars.

Ahmad, a former MP of Samajwadi Party from Phulpur parliamentary constituency, has been declared as a gangster by the Yogi Adityanath government.

Asked about the reason for giving ticket to a muscleman, Owaisi justified it by saying that the Election Commission grants him the legal right to contest election as charges have not been proved against him so far.

He pointed that people raising questions over Ahmad must also justify terror charges faced by BJP MP Pragya Thakur from Bhopal.

Owaisi, whose party has five MLAs in Bihar, slammed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath government over his 'Abba Jaan' remarks alleging that state government proved to be a failure in terms of developmental work of the Muslim community.

Hyderabad MP Owaisi stated that had the UP government done any work, Adityanath would have not been required to use words like Abba Jaan ahead of the assembly elections.

“He did not do anything to control the dropout rate of Muslims in Uttar Pradesh. There is 60 percent dropout rate among the Muslims, 2 percent of Muslims are graduates and 3 percent have passed the 12th standard. From 2017-18 only 10 Muslim households got houses under Pradhanmantri Grameen Awas Yojna. Under MSDP (Multi Sectoral Development Programme), Rs 1,600 crore was allotted to Muslims but only Rs 16 crore was spent. He is a liar. If he would have done some work he would have not required to shout Abba Abba,”Owaisi alleged.

Owaisi did not stop there and termed Bihar BJP MLA Haribhushan Thakur Bachaul as an illiterate person. Yesterday Bachaul had slammed Owaisi by calling him second Jinnah and a leader with a Talibani mindset apart from suggesting that he go to Afghanistan.

“These people don't read anything. They are illiterate. What had Advani said about Jinnah, doesn't he know that Advani had showered praise on JInnah? I am here and we rejected the two nation theory of Jinnah. All those who talk about empowering the minorities are seen from the same glass. They are just playing the same old tape,” Owaisi asserted.

Veteran BJP leader and founder member LK Advani had to resign as party president after calling Pakistan founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah a secular and great leader during a visit to Pakistan in 2005.
