India receives oxygen production plant from Italy

A flight from Italy brought in an oxygen production plant and 20 ventilators on Monday to support India's response to a massive surge in Coronavirus infections that has stretched the resources of healthcare facilities in several states.

New Delhi: A shipment of an oxygen production plant and 20 ventilators from Italy arrived on Monday in New Delhi.

Other medical supplies were also sent by Italy. As India continues to battle against the deadly second wave of the pandemic, countries across the world have come forward to assist the nation at this hour of crisis.

The European Union has shown immense support as India is in dire need of oxygen and other medical aid.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his appreciation to the EU and its member states for mobilizing quick support for India’s fight against the second wave of the COVID-19.

In a telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Modi and H.E Ursula Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission exchanged views on the prevailing COVID-19 situation in India and the EU, including India’s ongoing efforts to contain the second wave of the pandemic.

“The EU stands by India, as I told Prime Minister today. More aid - oxygen cylinders, ventilators, medication - is channelized to India from Czechia, Denmark, Spain, Netherlands and Germany via the Civil Protection Mechanism. This is global solidarity in action, President of European Commission Ursula said in a tweet.

Taking to Twitter, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, “Taking forward our warm and multifaceted relationship. Shipment of an oxygen production plant and 20 ventilators arrives from Italy. Value the support from our important EU partner."

Meanwhile, the fourth consignment of medical supplies containing 60 ventilators reached from the UK. India thanked the UK for its continuous support.

On Sunday, a flight carrying 125,000 vitals of antiviral drug Remdisivir had arrived in Delhi from the United States.

The US embassy in New Delhi in a statement had said: "The American people stand united with India in the fight against COVID-19. Today, 125,000 vials of the antiviral drug Remdesivir arrived from the US -the fourth relief shipment- and there are more life-saving supplies on the way."

Also medical supplies from Germany, Belgium, Romania and others had arrived in India. The Ministry of External Affairs had said that over 40 countries have come forward to assist India as it continues to grapple with the Covid-19 humanitarian crisis. More than 550 oxygen generating plants are also arriving In India from different sources all across the world.

The ambassador of the European Union to India, Ugo Astuto had earlier said that more flights have arrived from France, Germany and Belgium with urgently needed oxyge equipment and medicines. Team Europe is pooling resources and mobilizing support in solidarity with India. “We are in this together”, he added.
