IMD predicts more rains ahead in several parts of India

The Indian Meteorological Department predicted more rains ahead in several parts of India. Many parts of the country may witness light to moderate widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

Hyderabad: Several parts of India are likely to experience rainfall in the coming days, while some areas are likely to be affected by hailstorms, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a statement. According to the IMD, North India is likely to receive light to moderate widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds.

As per the IMD, South India may witness scattered widespread rainfall with thunderstorms. However, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to witness over south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Kerala.

According to the weather department, light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is very likely over the East India region during the next two days and reduction thereafter. Meanwhile, hailstorms are very likely at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal on May 3.

A 'yellow' alert for thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in plains, low and mid-hilly areas in the state has been issued till May 6. Light to moderate rains continues to lash several parts of all the 12 districts in the state. Jogindernagar in Mandi district recorded the highest rainfall of 47 mm, followed by Manali 24 mm, Pachhad 23 mm, Solan 11.2 mm while Shimla received 8 mm of rain.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thundershowers and gusty winds during the day in Delhi. The national capital recorded 15 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours that ended at 8.30 am on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, West India will witness light isolated rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning very likely during the next five days and Central Maharashtra and Marathawada may receive hailstorms on May 2 and 4.
