Chandigarh: The crisis in the Punjab Congress started with a tussle between former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and party president Navjot Singh Sidhu. Due to this, Captain Amarinder Singh had to leave the post of Chief Minister of Punjab. After that, it was expected that everything will calm down.

But even after the appointment of the new Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, the struggle continued inside the party. Today, Navjot Singh Sidhu has resigned from the post of party President which comes in the backdrop of Captain Amarinder Singh meeting Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi.

In his resignation via a tweet, Sidhu wrote that he could not make any compromise for the future of Punjab but also wrote that he would continue to serve the Congress party by staying in the Congress.

After Sidhu's resignation, former CM Capt Amarinder Singh also tweeted, "I told you he is not a stable man and the border state is not conducive to Punjab."

Here are the 5 potential reasons behind Sidhu's resignation

1. Failure to become the Chief Minister of Punjab

When Captain Amarinder Singh resigned from the Chief Minister's post, Sidhu was hopeful that the Congress high command would appoint him as the next Chief Minister. But the Captain launched an attack in such a way that Siddu could not become the CM.

Captain Amarinder described Sidhu as a threat to the country and Punjab. Due to which the Congress High Command could not muster the courage to make him the chief minister. However, Sidhu still managed to appoint the chief minister of his choice - Charanjit Singh Channi. Despite that, his failure to become the CM of the state bothered him deeply.

2. Sidhu's opinion was not taken while appointing the Police Chief

As soon as Charanjit Singh Channi took over as the chief minister, he started taking his own decision. Sidhu had assumed that Charanjit Singh Channi will follow his advice, but quite the opposite happened. Sidhu expected that Channi would take all the steps only after asking him. That did not happen and Charanjit Singh Channi appointed IPS officer Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota as the Additional DGP of Punjab. Sidhu is clearly miffed with this decision of CM Channi, who didn't consult him before appointing the IPS officer.

3. Sidhu is also unhappy with the appointment of Advocate General

The appointment of the Advocate General becomes the next contentious issue for Sidhu. For this too, Sidhu was seen batting for Anmol Ratan Sidhu, the face of his choice. But here too Sidhu proved to be a failure. In this case, Charanjit Singh Channi appointed APS Deol to this post.

4. Allocation of departments to cabinet ministers

It took the party nearly a week of hard work to appoint the face of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi's cabinet. Here also Sidhu was seen trying to dominate Channi. But the high command also included some leaders, giving preference to the Captain Amarinder Singh faction in the cabinet. After this, it was the turn of the allocation of the departments and ministries. But it is believed that Sidhu's opinion was not considered during this exercise.

5. Issue of Home Ministry

According to the information, Navjot Singh Sidhu was also trying to show his influence regarding the Home Ministry. Charanjit Singh Channi assigned the Home Ministry to Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. Randhawa was also a front runner to become the CM of Punjab.
