Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Congress senior leader Jairam Ramesh demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the session of Parliament to discuss about the current situation at Line of Actual Control. He said that PM owes an explanation as his "no encroachment" statement single-handedly weakened India's case and the status quo Ante on LAC has not been restored.

New Delhi: Congress senior leader Jairam Ramesh, on Sunday, demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend Monsoon Session of Parliament to discuss about the current situation at Line of Actual Control, while alleging that it was his statement, of "no encroachment" on Indian territory by Chinese PLA, which "weakened" our country's stand.

"PM should answer. Parliament is a space for discussion, not for running away," said the Congress leader while addressing a virtual press conference, on Sunday.

He further added, "It is ridiculous to say that there should not be any discussion on China. We need a discussion on China. The greatest damage done to our cause is by the Prime Minister's own statement. He owes an explanation as that statement single-handedly weakened India's case and the status quo Ante on LAC has not been restored."

Jairam Ramesh also referred to the 1962 war between India and China, while asserting that the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru called a Parliament session to discuss about the matter.

"In November 1962, when India and China were at war, Parliament was meeting. During the second phase of Chinese in corrosion in India Parliament was in session. Prime Minister was sitting in Lok Sabha listening to to the criticism of his own policies from senior parliamentarians including Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee," he said.

Congress is also going to raise this issue in the Monsoon session of Parliament, which is going to start from Monday, along with questioning the Government on the alleged donations being made to the PM-CARES fund by various Chinese companies and demanding it to purview under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

"We are against PM-CARES fund. It is non-transparent. No CAG audit, no RTI is allowed. Many industrialists have given money to this fund and so have some Chinese firms. We will demand that if PM-CARES will stay then it has to be made transparent," he added.

"We are not scoring debating points here. This is the very serious national issue as is the economic collapse, COVID-19 situation, EIA draft notification, airport privatization, filing of chargesheets against intellectuals, activists, opposition leaders- right, left and Center," Jairam Ramesh asserted.
