New Delhi:  With eyebrows being raised on the absence of top environment ministry officials from a key parliamentary panel meeting on the issue of air pollution in Delhi-NCR, the ministry clarified on Friday that some of its officials were present during the deliberations, while one was busy in a crucial Supreme Court hearing.

A statement issued by a spokesperson said the ministry was represented by the deputy secretary and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) officials at the meeting convened by Parliament's Standing Committee on Urban Development.

Earlier in the day, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar told a press conference that he would look into the matter.

"I will find out and investigate," he said when asked about it.

The ministry spokesperson said the joint secretary could not attend the meeting as she was to appear in a matter in the Supreme Court.

"Also, detailed notes were submitted to the Ministry of Urban Development prior, as was asked," he added.

According to sources, top officials of the environment ministry, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and municipal commissioners stayed away from the meeting held here on Friday. 

An official spokesperson said the environment ministry was represented at the meeting by the deputy secretary and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) officials, adding that the joint secretary could not attend it as she was to appear in an important matter in Supreme Court. The spokesperson also said detailed notes were submitted to the urban development ministry.

Intro:Environment Minister Prakash Jawdekar has said that he will investigate into the matter of MPs not attending parliamentary panel meeting on level of pollution in Delhi.
The meeting was scheduled on Friday but only four MPs out of a total of 29 turned up for the meet. Some officials were also present for the meeting but due to poor attendence the meeting was postponed.


Body:The list of MPs in the panel included Gautam Gambhir who is also an MP from Delhi and ace actress Hema Malini. While Gambhir is in Indore for commentary in India-Bangladesh cricket match, Hema Malini was said to busy with promotions of a brand she endorses.
Union Minister Prakash Jawdekar said that though he was not aware about any such event but will take note of this and enquire.
" Pollution is not an issue of politics so rather than blaming anybody I urge everybody to work together and fight with it. Whatever is necessary should be done" said Prakash Jawdekar on the issue of Pollution.
