New Delhi: Terming the Delhi riots as "miserable" and "complete failure" on the part of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shiv Sena Member of Parliament (MP) Arvind Sawant has said seeking resignation of the Union Home Minister is "not an answer to the problem".
"It's a blot for the country. It happened when US President Donald Trump was here on an official visit," he said while interacting with the ETV Bharat here.
"It's not any city of the country. It's our national capital," Sawant said, adding that the riots must be investigated and also how the ministry concerned failed to prevent it.
"If seeking resignation of the Home Minister would solve the problem, I will also ask for it," the Shiv Sena MP said.
He said people have right to protest and the government should have ensured a place of protest for the people who wanted to go for sit-in-protest.
"We did the same thing in Maharashtra by shifting protesters to a place where they could have carried on with their protest without disturbing others," he said.
Sawant also expressed regret saying that political parties in most cases were busy trying to make political gains and end up ignoring the country.
"Political parties must give importance to the nation as all issues cannot be politicized," he added.
