Body:The final publication of NRC on August 31 was marked with a massive hue and cry with several groups in Assam demanding for a fresh verification of the NRC updating process.

A three member special bench court of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice SA Bobde and Justice RF Nariman has ordered the transfer.

In its order, the Supreme Court said, "Upon hearing Prateek Hajela, learned state coordinator, the learned attorney general and the learned solicitor general and taking into account the totality of the facts of the case, we order for the inter-cadre transfer of Mr Hajela to the state of Madhya Pradesh on reputation for the maximum period permissible under the relevant rule/regulations."

Welcoming the move, All Assam Students Union (AASU), an influential student organisation of Assam said that "it was a right decision."

"There were lots of anomalies in the final NRC. We have been demanding revarification of the process," said AASU chief advisor Samujjal to ETV Bharat in an exclusive interview.

He said that the final NRC list does carry names of illegal foreigners. The AASU in early 80's had initiated the anti-foreigners movement in Assam which forced the central and state government to sign Assam Accord in 1985.

In fact, the accord had a cause to update the NRC to detect the illegal foreigners (Bangladeshi) living in Assam.

"We have also told the court that there were anomalies in the final NRC," said Bhattacharya.

He said that NRC coordinator also violated SC's guidelines while updating the NRC. "He did not appoint observer, neither there there was any varification. Even the officials who had a doubtful conduct have also not been transferred during the NRC update process," said Bhattacharya.

The AASU has appealed the Supreme Court to appoint a senior officers as a new NRC observer "so that names of illegal foreigners could be deleted from NRC list."

The final NRC has excluded 19 lakh people who failed to ascertain their Indian nationality.

Conclusion:The court will again hear the case on November 26.

Prateek Hajela, a 1995 batch IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre was appointed NRC coordinator by the apex court.
