Assam floods: Five dead, 6.47 lakh people affected in 22 districts

The monsoon flood situation in Assam continued to worsen, as more than 647,606 lakh people were affected in 22 of the state's 34 districts. Officials with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported two more drownings in Majuli and Barpeta districts, bringing the death toll since August 30 to five.

Officials with the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported two more drownings in Majuli and Barpeta districts, bringing the death toll since August 30 to five.

According to ASDMA officials, the districts affected by flood re Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Daarang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup (Rural), Kamrup(Metro), Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tinsukia etc.

A total of 57 revenue circles in these 22 districts are still in floodwaters. So far 1295 revenue villages have been affected by floods. Of these, Morigaon district is at the top position.

Over 251 villages in the district have been affected by floods. From the population point of view, no. the highest number of people in Nalbari district have been affected by heavy floods. A total of 110,731 people in the district have been affected by floods.

According to the data, a total of 85 shelter camps have been set up in 10 more affected districts of the state to ensure the safety of the people on behalf of the government.

Over 3,584 forest victims have taken shelter in the camps set up by the department. It may be recalled that 4,45,210 livestock, as well as wildlife, have been flooded in the state.
