Tezpur,14 January : On the occasion of the Armed Force Veteran's Day Tezpur Gajaraj Corps celebrates the Veterans who served the Nation, following a wreath laying ceremony here at Gajaraj War Memorial today. Ex Servicemen who have settled down in and around Tezpur participated in the events led by Capt. Mukul Kumar Das (Retd) laying the wreath. The Gajaraj Corps (IV Corps) Commander GOC Lt. Gen. Manoj Pande laid wreath on behalf of all ranks of Corps.
The Armed Force Veteran's Day is celebrated with full military fervor and gaiety every year on this Day to commemorate the selfless decoration and sacrifice of Veterans who laid down their lives in defence of the nation. The day also commemorated as mark of respect in recognition of the services rendered by Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, OBE, the first Commander - in- Chief of the Indian Army. He laid the Indian Forces to victory in the 1948 war, became the Commander-in-chief on January 15 1949 and retired on January 14, 1953.

The Armed Forces Veterans Day is celebrated from 2017. The fourth Army Forces Veteran Day, 2020 is to be celebrated at National War Memorial. Chief of Army, Chief of Navy and Chief of Air Force will be present in the Function. Every year, January 14 is marked as Armed Forces Veteran Day as the Field Marshal KM Cariappa, the first Commander-in-chief of Indian Armed Forces retired on the Day.
