Huaura Region: A bus travelling from Piura in northwestern Peru to the capital, Lima, crashed en route, killing at least eight people and injuring 45 others.
Bus crashed on a median of the Pan American highway The accident occurred on the Pan American Highway at approximately 3 am local time when the bus crashed into a highway median wall, according to local rescue teams.
Five passengers who were traveling on the upper deck were thrown from the bus and died after landing on rocks in the creek of a riverbed below the highway.
Authorities confirmed that a delegation from the APRA (American Popular Revolutionary Alliance) political party were travelling on the bus to attend the funeral of former president Alan Garcia.
