"I think that there is just a very distinct tone in style and sense of humor of Star Wars. It's very specific. It's sort of these characters caught in like these desperate circumstances. And it's sort of like that feeling of I really don't know what I'm doing. And boy, I'm not sure I really want to be here, but I know that I have to do this because I believe in it. So here we go. You know, there's that real kind of sense of being just like on the edge of your seat, of danger, of, you know, of situation, of circumstance that I think is very Star Wars. It's both very funny, but also very endearing. There's there's a real heart of that. And that's the stuff that immediately jumped out at me when I when I saw the story and the dialogue and the characters. It felt very true to the nature of the Star Wars that I knew and remembered from growing up."

"I'd say it's fully my performance. You know, the technology has gotten very good and it's able to capture extremely subtle things. Eye movement and expression, micro expression. They did a very good job in retaining that. And certain things like I developed how I wanted the character to move and how he walked and that kind of stuff. And all of that is within the game as well."

"It's kind of interesting with Cal because he was trained traditionally for the first like 12, 13 years of his life. And then after the Jedi purge, the Jedi massacre, he goes on the run, goes into hiding and lives in a very rough planet - a kind of rough and tumble place. So he's kind of has this interesting mix of sort of like some of the Jedi poise as well as a bit of street smarts and toughness and that as well. So it is about finding kind of the mixture of both grace and rawness as well that was important. But yeah, like I trained in, you know, like martial arts stuff and some acrobatic stuff. And I also just wanted to make sure that I was in, you know, that that shape at that time to be able to move with a certain level of athleticism and grace that I felt that Cal would have."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Cameron Monaghan, actor:
"But it does take place a few years after 'Episode 3' and, Order 66 and the Jedi purge. And it's kind of filling in the gaps of something that hasn't been fully explored yet. Which is the space between 'Episode 3' and 'Episode 4,' especially the earlier years immediately after the end of 'Episode 3.' Yeah. So we're kind of watching a character that's a Jedi on the run, and in a time when the Republic has fallen and the Empire is rising and coming to what it will be by 'A New Hope.'"

STORYLINE:
CAMERON MONAGHAN PLAYS A JEDI IN NEW 'STAR WARS' VIDEO GAME
"Shameless" and "Gotham" star Cameron Monaghan plays a Jedi on the run in the new video game "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order."
Monaghan did performance-capture acting for the game, a single-player adventure that takes place in the "Star Wars" timeline after the last of George Lucas' prequels and before the original movie, "A New Hope."
The 26-year-old actor says the game's story matches up to the "Star Wars" tone he knew growing up.
It's both very funny, but also very endearing. There's there's a real heart of that. And that's the stuff that immediately jumped out at me when I when I saw the story and the dialogue and the characters. It felt very true to the nature of the Star Wars that I knew."
Monaghan spent more than six months doing performance capture and voice work on the game using sets filled with computers and so-called "virtual cameras."
"I'd say it's fully my performance. You know, the technology has gotten very good and it's able to capture extremely subtle things. Eye movement and expression, micro expression. They did a very good job in retaining that. And certain things like I developed how I wanted the character to move and how he walked and that kind of stuff. And all of that is within the game as well," he said.
Monaghan's character is Cal Kestis, who trained early in life as a Jedi but is forced to go into hiding after Order 66, the Jedi purge seen at the end of 2005's "Revenge of the Sith."
"It's kind of interesting with Cal because he was trained traditionally for the first like 12, 13 years of his life. And then after the Jedi purge, the Jedi massacre, he goes on the run, goes into hiding and lives in a very rough planet -- a kind of rough and tumble place. And I also just wanted to make sure that I was in, you know, that that shape at that time to be able to move with a certain level of athleticism and grace that I felt that Cal would have."
The game is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
