Bankura (West Bengal): Arrested on charges of raping an eight-year-old girl for drawing blood in order to get married, a man in Bishnupur, in West Bengal's Bankura district, was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday.
The incident which took place roughly a week back saw the accused, a tutor by profession, hold back the child after classes on the pretext of providing her with chocolates, and subsequently rape her.
Upon interrogation, the former noted that the occult practitioner, identified as one Gurupad Majhi from Barajora in Bankura district, had told him to bring bloody clothes belonging to a minor to a Manasa temple in the area in order to quicken the process to get married.
Following a police complaint, both the accused (37) and his advisor, a tantrik, were arrested on Tuesday. Both were produced before the Bishnupur sub-divisional court, where the latter has denied all allegations.
