Garshalboni (West Bengal): The convoy of Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee came under attack by protestors in the Jhargram district on Friday. Bengal minister Birbaha Hansda’s car was vandalised in the attack. Sources said the attackers belonged to the Kurmi community.
After the first two-three vehicles of Abhishek Banerjee's convoy left, several vehicles were at the receiving end with bamboo, rods etc. Several vehicles of the convoy were damaged. After this incident, Trinamool sources confirmed that Trinamool Congress All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee spoke to the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee about the matter. After talking to him, the chief minister spoke to the state chief secretary Hari Krishna Dwivedi about the matter. Mamata Banerjee has sought a detailed report on how this incident happened. It is learnt that the Chief Minister is not only worried about the incident, but has ordered the administration to take measures.
At the same time, Mamata Banerjee also spoke to DG Manoj Malviya. She asked the district administration to submit a quick report on the incident. Similarly, state minister Birbaha Hansda also spoke with Mamata Banerjee following the incident. Her car was also attacked on Friday. Mamata Banerjee apparently is unhappy with the turn of events. She directed the police and administration to take active and strict action for the entire incident.
By the way, the chief minister is supposed to visit Jangalmahal on Saturday. Earlier this incident also raised questions about the security of the Chief Minister. Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are scheduled to attend the Nabojoar programme in Shalbani on Saturday. Now it remains to be seen what message the Trinamool supremo gives to the people of Jangalmahal and the agitated Kurmi leaders. Currently listed under the OBC category, the Kurmis have long been agitating to be inducted into the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. They have held agitations against both the state and the Central Government over the issue.
