Migraine isn’t a typical headache when migraines strike you will do anything to make them stop. Natural remedies are a drug-free way to reduce migraine symptoms. Here is the list of things you can do to alleviate their symptoms and get relief from it.

Migraine is a condition that is very common across the globe. According to WHO, migraine affects at least 1 in every 7 adults in the world and is upto 3 times more common in women than in men. Migraine is often characterised as throbbing and acute headaches, but its symptoms may also include:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Numbness
  • Sensitivity to light and sounds
  • Fatigue
  • Blurred vision, etc.

But amidst this lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic here are some things you can try at home to alleviate the symptoms of Migraine headaches.

Include Magnesium In Your Diet
Magnesium is an essential mineral and may trigger migraine aura and menstrual-migraine headaches. Some studies have shown that magnesium supplementation is helpful in such situations. You can include:

  • Almonds
  • Sesame seeds
  • Milk
  • Cashews
  • Peanut butter, etc.
  • Consult a doctor before taking magnesium supplements, especially if you have any other medical conditions.

Ginger to the rescue
Ginger is well known to alleviate symptoms of nausea caused by many reasons, including migraine. Researches have shown that ginger powder helps lessen the severity of migraine.

A Dark And Quiet Room
Find a room which is dim lit and away from all the loud noises and rest in there. A good and peaceful sleep of 7-9 hours at night is also helpful in reducing stress and preventing migraines.

Pour in Lots of Water
Staying hydrated is the key to prevent migraine and headache triggers. Especially in the summers, it is an important time to be fit and hydrated 24*7. Even a minor dehydration can trigger headaches.

Massage it out
Massaging your scalp and muscles in the neck and shoulders can help reduce migraine pain.

Practice Yoga
Yoga is safer than other exercises that make your heart pump fast. With its slower movements, yoga is a better alternative. It is helpful in improving blood flow and reducing muscle tension, which in turn helps relieving symptoms of migraine.

Change Your Diet
Keep a check on foods that trigger migraine headaches and avoid their consumption. Some common foods that trigger migraine are:

  • Processed foods
  • Red wine
  • Alcohol
  • Chocolate
  • Caffeinated beverages
  • Although, consumption of caffeine, like in coffee in little amounts can help in relieving headaches as well.

Essential Oils

Inhaling Lavender oil is found to ease migraine pain. It can be inhaled directly or applied to the temples. Peppermint oil may also help prevent migraine pain and can be used by applying to the forehead and temples.
