Boosting Benefits Of Mulberry

Mulberry is grown in temperate zones of Asia and is a rare fruit. These berries are found to be wonderful in terms of health benefits. Mulberries are good for the stomach and relieve constipation because of a good amount of dietary fiber.

Mulberries are a good source of fiber and facilitate proper digestion. Research conducted by Italy’s F. De Ritis Institute and the Catholic University of Sacred Heart found that eating mulberries contribute to weight loss.

Mulberry lowers the levels of bad cholesterol in the body, which in turn helps in preventing cardiovascular problems. White mulberries, in particular, help in keeping a check on the sugar levels of the body. Mulberries are rich in antioxidants and phytonutrients like Anthocyanins and Resveratrol, which help in stopping the growth and spread of tumor cells and protect you from cancer.

Mulberries improve blood flow and control blood pressure. The antioxidants present in mulberries help in improving the function of the blood vessels by keeping them supple and dilated. The potassium present in the fruits helps to lower blood pressure. Mulberries encourage the production of red blood cells as they are rich in iron. They also contain iron so it’s a good help for anaemics.

As per a study published in PubMed by Yang X., Yang L., Zheng H., Fatty acid content and composition of mulberry can vary according to different ecological conditions. For example, Chinese mulberry fruits had 7.55% total lipids, with 87.5% of unsaturated fatty acids. The highest fatty acid content in Chinese mulberry fruits was linoleic acid C18:2 (79.4%), followed by palmitic acid C16:2 (8.6%) and oleic acid C18:1 (7.5%) In addition, Chinese mulberry also contained 0.6% α-linolenic acid]. Although the highest fatty acid content in Turkish mulberry was linoleic acid C18:2 (57.3%) followed by palmitic acid C16:0 (22.4%); no presence of linolenic acid C18:3 was reported

Like carrots, mulberries to are good for the eyes. Mulberries contain zeaxanthin, which helps in reducing oxidative stress in eye cells. The carotenoids present in mulberries assist in preventing cataracts and macular degeneration. Mulberries help in improving the immune system and brain from degeneration. It is rich in vitamin C, Vitamin K, and calcium. All this helps bones reverse the signs of bone degradation and prevent bone disorders such as osteoporosis, arthritis, etc. White mulberries are considered to be an astringent and bactericide. They have the ability to strengthen the liver.

The presence of Resveratrol in mulberries induce anti-inflammatory properties and boost the skin health. It acts as anti-aging. The antioxidants in mulberries such as beta-carotene neutralize the free radicals, reduce wrinkles, prevent blemishes on the skin. They also support melanin synthesis and make the skin soft and radiant. Regular eating of mulberries makes the hair lustrous and healthy.

As per a study published in ScienceDirect, Mulberry is also used as a medicinal plant in improving and enhancing the life of human beings by utilizing the biologically active pharmacokinetic compounds found in leaf, stem, and root parts. Further industrial exploitation of mulberry through the preparation of various products in pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic, and health care industries has gained the attention of industrialists. As mulberry is being exploited by sericulture, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, and beverage industries along with its utilization in environmental safety approach; it is appropriate to call it the most suitable plant for sustainable development.
