Haridwar: A case was registered against unknown persons in Uttarakhand's Haridwar GRP on Saturday, five days after a bomb threat surfaced at the railway station, threatening to blow up Haridwar and Rishikesh on October 25 and 27 respectively, apart from conducting similar blasts in the 'Char Dham' - popular religious destinations frequented by pilgrims.
The threat letter was sent by the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad, railway officials confirmed.
The document, as per information, reached Station Master on October 10, following which he provided related inputs to both GRP and RPF Haridwar. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), too, has been constituted in the matter.
"On October 10, the Station in charge received a letter threatening to blow up the Haridwar rail station, as well as other places including the 'Dhams'. Such letters have arrived before as well. A case has been registered under the UA(P)A Act.
Additionally, a team including myself and members of the SOG (Special Operations Group), GRP Haridwar station in-charge has been constituted by SSP, Railways and we will soon start our investigation into the issue," Haridwar SP Aruna Bharti said.
Queried as to why police had not divulged the information until five days after having received the letter, Bharti informed that any similarities between handwriting in the current document and those received in the past were being examined, as it would help determine the upcoming course of action.
