Villagers force BJP MLA to walk on water-logged road in Uttar Pradesh

Many roads in the village remains water-logged. 'We are forced to move through the water,' one local resident said. People also alleged that MLA Kamal Malik did not even turn up to the village once after becoming an MLA in four years.

Hapur: Lack of sanitation facilities in the area forced people of Nanai village in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur to compel BJP MLA from Garh Mukteshwar, Kamal Malik to walk on the road filled with sewer water on Friday. When the MLA reached the village to hold a 'padayatra', the people in the village surrounded him and forced him to walk on the drain water-filled road. Some even took the video of the incident and made it viral on social media. In the video, the MLA is holding the hand of a man and walking on the water-logged road. Attempting to expose laxity in administration, local residents accused the BJP MLA of failing in providing basic facilities to the people.

They claimed that from water logging to poor sanitation, there is no system in the village. "The road was constructed, but without a proper drainage system. Following this, the road remains water-logged mostly. We are forced to move through the water," a local resident said. People also alleged that Malik did not even turn up to the village once after becoming an MLA in four years.

Villagers are of the opinion that Samajwadi Party workers did better developmental works in other villages but no work was done in Hapur. Reacting to the incident, Kamal Malik said that he is holding 'padayatra' in all the villages of his constituency to keep a check on the administrative works.

"The village head asked me to walk on a clean path but I decided to take the route to check the problem and the cause of water-logging on the road. I asked them to shoot the video but the incident has been portrayed in a negative sense," Malik said.
