Two sisters in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia was forced to carry their mother's dead body on their shoulder as they did not get any public transportation due to the lockdown imposed amid coronavirus outbreak.

Ballia (UP): As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has imposed a nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, two sisters in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia were forced to carry her mother's dead body on their shoulder as public transportation was not available.

None of their family members could reach out to them as public transportation has stopped amid the coronavirus lockdown. Not even their neighbours could come to attend the funeral as they are practising social distancing.

"Our father has died already. We are four sisters, two of them are not in town. We have a cousin brother, living in Patna, but he can't come because of the lockdown. We had no option but to carry the dead body on our shoulders," deceased's younger daughter Asha Soni said.

India is under 21-day national lockdown kicked in from Wednesday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this unprecedented measure as the only way out to break the coronavirus transmission chain.
