Intro:New Delhi: The Union government today told the Supreme Court that the documents linked to the Rafale deal have been stolen and one cannot rely upon them because it is the violation of the Official Secrets Act.

Body:Attorney General KK Venugopal, the representative of the government, said, "These documents were stolen from the Defence Ministry either by the former or present employees. These are secret documents and can't be in the public domain".

After this revelation the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi asked the AG to inform about the steps and measures taken by the government after the incident. The AG replied by informing that an FIR hasn't been registered yet as it would also have to name the petitioners in the case.(Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie and Prashant Bhushan)

Meanwhile, Justice SK Kaul, who is among the judges hearing the case, took a dig at the government regarding the alleged theft and said that it should put its own house in order. He added, "It is one thing to say that we should look at these documents with suspicion. But to say we can't even look at those documents may not be a correct submission in law."

The AG also told the court that the government will take action against the publications which leaked the stolen report. However, Advocate Prashant Bhushan countered his argument. He gave an example of how the whistleblowers gave him the entry register of former CBI director Ranjit Sinha & other documents in 2G scam case which the Supreme Court relied upon while ordering a probe.

Conclusion:The matter will now be heard on 14th March.
