Muslim men conduct last rites of Covid-infected bodies of Hindus

Bhopal: Two Muslim men, one of whom is an in-charge of Fire Station and the other one works as a hearse driver, have been helping the families who have lost their loved ones to coronavirus and are either afraid or don't have the required means to handle the infected bodies.

"There are families who don't have resources for the last rites of their loved ones and there are people who don't want to take risk of coronavirus infection by handling them on their own. In these cases, we help them by conducting last rites for their loved ones," Saddam Qureshi told ETV Bharat here.

He said, "It's a difficult situation for all but we as human beings have to help others in need".

Similar views were expressed by Danish Siddiqui, the Fire Station in-charge as he said that both of them first have to ensure their own safety to provide any kind of service to anyone else.

"We take all possible precautions while handling the infected bodies and don't discriminate on the basis of religion as it has nothing to do with our work," Siddiqui said, adding that "it's being done as a service to humanity and nothing comes in between".

Siddiqui feels it's God, who wants them to serve people in need.

He also said that both of them have children and other people back home but they maintain distance from them so that there is no fear of infection.
