Thiruvananthapuram: Sijo, a tenth-grade visually challenged student from Kerala has scored A plus in all subjects in Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations, the results of which were declared recently.
Hailing from Pongumoodu, a small suburb in Trivandrum, Sijo is the elder son of Sangeeth and Rajitha.
Sijo's parents say that their son started losing his vision when he was just four-months-old.
"After that, he was never able to see again. All our efforts to bring back his eyesight went futile," his father, who works as an auto-driver said.
However, despite hardships, Sijo fought every battle of his life just to make sure that he does not lose.
The 16-year-old studied at the School for Visually Challenged in Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram until he finished his 7th standard. After that, he joined SNV School and continued his education there.
Sijo's brother Lijo, who studies in 6th standard is also visually challenged.
"I used to listen to the lessons with the help of audio recordings. I appeared for the class 10 examinations with the help of my friend Abhijeet, who wrote down the answers which I explained to him during exams," Sijo explained.
Sijo's ambition in life is to become a college lecturer. Besides that, he wants to crack the Civil Services examinations.
Apart from studies, Sijo keeps himself engaged in cricket, poetry, and oration.
A player of Kerala state blind cricket team, Sijo also wishes to wear the jersey of the Indian cricket team one day.
Sijo's grades is an inspiration for the new generation of visually impaired students who are efficient and want to achieve big in life.
