Shopian (Jammu and Kashmir): A foreign Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, police said. The militant has been identified as Kamran Bhai alias Hanees, they said. An encounter broke out between militants and security forces in the Kapren area of Shopian district in the early hours of Friday, a police official said. "One FT of JeM #terror outfit killed, identified as Kamran Bhai @Hanees who was active in #Kulgam-#Shopian area. Search is still going on," ADGP, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar tweeted.

In a press conference, SSP Shopian Tanushree said, "Based on specific information about the presence of militants in Kapran village, the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. The militants tried hard to escape by firing indiscriminately, but the effective strategy of the security personnel did not give them any chance to escape." She further said, "The security forces achieved success by killing the commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammad organisation in this encounter."
