Yamunanagar: A group of protesting farmers clashed with police personnel in Haryana's Yamuna Nagar and also attempted to break the barricade and disrupt a meeting of State Ministers Kanwarpal Gurjar and Mool Chand Sharma on Saturday. Massive clashes broke out as state police tried to stop protesters from marching ahead of the permitted line in Yamunanagar. However, the ministers went ahead with their programme amid protests. The police have detained scores of farmers including farmer leaders Subhash Gurjar, Sahab Singh Gurjar and Suman Valmiki.

It is worth mentioning that farmers have been protesting across the country since November 2020, seeking the withdrawal of the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers' (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. They have also been demanding a new law to guarantee a minimum support price for crops. However, the Centre has described the laws as pro-farmer.
