New Delhi: India has come a long way in developing indigenous defence technologies and improving the security infrastructure after the infamous Kargil war. Defence expert Major General P K Sehgal talks to ETV Bharat on the challenges the country faces in defence sector.
Former Major General feels that the Kargil war gave India a 'phenomenal lesson' which turned out to be a huge security challenge for India.
"We were taken totally by surprise and our intelligence was third grade," Sehgal said.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Sehgal claims that Indian security forces are not structured to handle the warfare of the 21st century.
"It is very important that the lessons we learnt from the Kargil war need to be taken into consideration very seriously. We need a Cheif of Defence Staff, Jointness and integration in three services," he added.
"Based on several recommendations we need a defence space agency and cyber warfare agency equipped to deal with IT network-based elements in modern warfare," Sehgal said.
Besides, Sehgal also said that Indian armed forces need more training to be ready for any crisis like the Kargil war.
