New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a Class 12 student was allegedly stabbed to death following a quarrel between two student groups in southeast Delhi's Okhla area, police said on Tuesday. The 18-year-old victim, a resident of JJ camp in Okhla Phase II, was a student at Kalkaji school, they said.

There was a quarrel between two groups of students near Hansraj Sethi Park during which the boy allegedly suffered stab wounds to the chest. He was admitted to Purnima Sethi Hospital where he succumbed, according to the police. As per the inputs received, the incident happened at around 2 pm on Monday afternoon.

A case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. CCTV footage from the area has been checked and local inquiry is being conducted to identify and trace the culprits, the police said.

Several other such cases involving teenage students murdering their own colleagues have surfaced in the national capital in the recent past. In October 2022, a 17-year-old Class 10 student was stabbed to death by seven juveniles, including three of his classmates, outside their school in northwest Delhi.

In another such incident in Dwarka in March 2022, some school-going boys of Akshay Public School had a quarrel in which one of them shot another student dead. Data shows that Delhi records a huge number of crimes involving juveniles. For instance, in 2021, of the total of 3129 juveniles who have come into conflict with the law in all the union territories put together, 2643 are from Delhi. Much larger states like Rajasthan saw 2757 cases and Tamil Nadu 2212.
