New Delhi: Following its poor show in the recent Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress is likely to change the state party president, with current members of the Legislative Council Samir Kumar Singh and Premchand Mishra being the front-runners for the post.

According to sources, the Congress high command might look to appoint a new state unit president, and Samir Kumar Singh, who is the current working president of the Bihar Congress and an MLC, is a front-runner for the post.

Singh is considered a ground leader and is said to have a good relationship with party workers. He belongs to the Rajput community, and is also close to Shaktisinh Gohil, the current Congress in-charge for Bihar.

The other name which has popped up for the post is that of Premchand Mishra, who is also and MLC and is a current national media panelist for the party.

Mishra is considered a good spokesperson, and has been involved with the Bihar Congress for a very long time. In the past, he has served as the vice president of the state's Youth Congress unit, and also the president of the state unit of the NSUI. He is said to be close to former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and belongs to the Brahmin community.

With a strong alliance with RJD, the Congress believes the Muslim vote bank is firmly under its control, and is reportedly trying to capture the upper caste votes as well in the state. Hence, Singh and Mishra are being seen as the front-runners for the top post.

Following the party's poor show in the recent state polls, where it won only 19 of the 70 seats it contested, Shaktisinh Gohil and Bihar Congress chief Madan Mohan Jha had offered to resign from their posts.

However, reports suggest that the party might continue with Gohil as the Bihar in-charge and is looking to replace Jha.
