Assam police on Sunday arrested Bhargav Deka, one of the prime accused in the case related to use of a proxy candidate in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2020. Deka who owns Global Edulite, a Guwahati-based coaching centre, was arrested by the police as he landed at Guwahati Airport.

Guwahati: Assam police on Sunday arrested Bhargav Deka, one of the prime accused in connection with the scandal of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2020.

Acting on a reliable input, Deka was nabbed by the police as he landed at Guwahati Airport this evening.

According to police sources, Deka, who is the owner of coaching institute Global Edu Light, fled to Bangkok after the police started an investigation into the case.

"Deka helped one candidate Neel Nakshatra Das in the entire process of using a proxy candidate in the JEE Mains 2020 exam. Neel along with five others were also arrested," a police officer said.

"We have registered a case against Deka and started interrogating him. A special investigating team had been formed to probe the JEE fraud case in which a number of people are believed to be involved," the police officer added.

Earlier on Sunday, a team of Guwahati police also raided the house of Kakali Bujarbarua, an employee of Global Edulite.
