Kolkata: Ten-man Gokulam Kerala defeated Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan 2-1 in the final to emerge victorious of the 2019 Durand Cup. The match was being played at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday.
A brace from Marcus Joseph (45+1' and 52') handed the Kozhikode based-side Asia's oldest football tournament although Mohun Bagan got a consolation goal through Salva Chamorro (64').
Joseph could have scored a third in the 86th minute from Naocha Singh's cross but the skipper failed to touch the ball from a very close range.
This was the 129th edition of the World's second most oldest football tournament. Gokulam Kerela became the second team from Kerala after FC Kochin to win the prestigious Durand Cup.
