Rawalpindi: Quinton de Kock's role as South Africa's Test captain hangs in the balance following Monday's series loss to Pakistan, with head coach Mark Boucher saying he will convene the team's selectors to discuss the issue when the tour is over.
"Batters do go through sort of lack of form at a certain time. And I think that the big thing is that when you are captain everything is highlighted, and obviously, his lack of form now has been highlighted and people point and (are) saying: 'Is it because of the captaincy' and that, and maybe it is. We'll have these discussions when we get back home," the coach said.
"I'll sit down with the selectors, I'll convene the selectors and have these discussions to see, the way going forward. We have got a bit of time now once we get back to make a, not emotional decision but a smart decision on the way forward. If it is sort of looking at someone else to take over the that, a permanent job I think the time's probably now to do it, 'cause we have got a bit of time. We can give that guy a few months to sort of, get his way in and listen to what thoughts he's got and to grasp this Test team going forward," he added.
The 'Proteas' were beaten by 95 runs in the second Test in Rawalpindi after their last seven wickets fell for just 33 runs and lost a Test series against Pakistan for the first time since 2003.
De Kock, who went for a golden duck Monday's collapse after getting bowled on 29 in the first innings, was named South Africa skipper on a temporary basis last December.
