Former national spokespersons, Raashid Alvi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for EC's decision

Senior Congress and former national spokesperson of the party Raashid Alvi said that the EC's decision came immediately after Amit Shah's press conference where he urged the poll body to bar West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from campaigning in the state.

Questioning commission's action for cutting short the campaign time single-handedly in West Bengal, Alvi questioned, "Why was EC's decision not with immediate effect as the state was already witnessing poll violence. Who will be responsible if violence erupts again?"

"It was just because PM Modi's election rallies were scheduled today, the campaign will end at 10 pm today. It is a part of a big conspiracy plotted by PM Modi and Amit Shah," he said.

Alvi also said, "There has been a rising negative tendency in the last five years including the attacks on minorities in the guise of animal slaughter, slogans of 'Love Jihad', and deteriorating law and order situation in India. People have been asked to leave India if they talk against Modi govt. This trend has been witnessed in the recent five years."

The Election Commission's order came after Kolkata witnessed widespread violence during BJP president Amit Shah's massive roadshow in the city.
