Bhagalpur groom suffers chest pain, dies hours after marriage ceremony; Family alleges foul play

The groom's family has held the bride's family responsible for his death. Police said investigations were on as to how the youth died.

Bhagalpur: In a shocking incident, a groom died hours after tying the knot in Bihar's Bhagalpur yesterday, police said. The marriage ceremony went off well and on the next morning, when preparations were on for the 'bidai ceremony', the groom suddenly started feeling unwell and complained of acute chest pain. He was rushed to a hospital in Bhagalpur where doctors declared him dead. Police have sent his body for postmortem.

The deceased, 30-year-old Vineet Prakash, a software engineer, worked in Delhi. His family had fixed his marriage with Bhagalpur-based Janmjay Kumar Jha's daughter Ayushi. He had recently come to Bhagalpur for his wedding.

Amid a huge pomp and show, Vineet's marriage procession had reached Chaibasa in Jharkhand from Jhaua Kothi Khanjarpur of Mirjanhat Sheetla place in Bhagalpur on Wednesday. The groom appeared cheerful and participated in all the rituals, a relative of the bride said. Next morning, when relatives were preparing for the rituals to bid farewell to the newly wed couple, Vineet suddenly started feeling uncomfortable and complained of acute chest pain, he said. "We were busy with the arrangements to welcome the couple when we were informed that my nephew's health had deteriorated. When we reached Mayaganj Hospital, doctors had already declared him dead," Deepak Kumar Jha, uncle of the deceased said.

The groom's family have held the bride's family responsible for Vineet's death. They alleged that a conspiracy was hacked by the bride's family to kill the groom. Police said investigations were underway. "We are investigating as to how the health of this young man suddenly deteriorated leading to his health," police said.
