US to host first-ever in-person Quad summit on Sept 24, PM Modi to attend

US President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. will host the first-ever in-person Quad Leaders Summit at the White House. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia and Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga of Japan will attend the Summit on September 24.

Hyderabad: President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. will host the first-ever Quad Leaders Summit at the White House on September 24. President Biden looks forward to welcoming to the White House Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia and Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga of Japan.

In March, the US President had hosted the first-ever summit of the Quad leaders virtually and had vowed to strive for an Indo-Pacific region that is free, open, inclusive, anchored by democratic values.

Hosting the Quad leaders also showcases the Biden-Harris Administration’s priority of engaging in the Indo-Pacific, which include new multilateral configurations to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

The Quad Leaders will also focus on deepening ties and advancing practical cooperation in areas such as combatting COVID-19, addressing the climate crisis, partnering on emerging technologies and cyberspace, and promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The Summit holds significance as it would be the first-ever in-person talks between the heads of the state of four countries that see growing tensions with China over varieties of issues in the region.
