COVID-19: India logs 18,166 new infections, 214 deaths

A single-day rise of 18,166 infections and 214 fatalities pushed India's COVID-19 tally to 3,39,53,475 cases and 4,50,589 deaths, said the data updated by the ministry on Sunday.

Hyderabad: India logged 18,166 new COVID-19 infections taking the country's total tally of cases to 3,39,53,475, according to the Union Health Ministry. The active caseload stands at 2,30,971, the lowest in 208 days. The death toll climbed to 4,50,589 with 214 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

With the administration of 66,85,415 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage crossed 94.70 crore doses (94,70,10,175) as per provisional reports till 7 am Sunday.

The recovery of 23,624 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients to 3,32,71,915, the ministry said. India’s recovery rate stands at 97.99%, the highest since March 2020.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, a total of 58.25 crore samples were tested up to October 9, of which 12,83,212 samples were tested on Saturday.
