The Election Commission is likely to issue instructions today with a view to curbing the spread of COVID-19 on May 2, when votes in the five Assembly elections are scheduled to be counted. Meanwhile, the last 'Shahi Snan' (holy dip) of auspicious Kumbh Mela will take place today in the Ganga river at Har ki Pauri in Haridwar. Here is a heads-up of the important national events to look for today.

  • Kumbh's last 'Shahi Snan' to take place today

The last 'Shahi Snan' (holy dip) of auspicious Kumbh Mela will take place today in the Ganga river at Har ki Pauri in Haridwar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appealed on April 17 that the Kumbh Mela "should now only be symbolic amid the coronavirus crisis", stressing that it would give a boost to the fight against the pandemic.

The Election Commission (EC) is likely to issue instructions today with a view to curbing the spread of COVID-19 on May 2, when votes in the five Assembly elections are scheduled to be counted. The EC had been interacting with Chief Electoral Officers to ensure that all COVID-19 measures are followed at counting centres.
