Congress party has started gearing up for the upcoming Assembly polls of Uttar Pradesh, which has been scheduled in 2022 as the party's Central Election Committee had its first meeting to decide on the names of candidates.

New Delhi: Congress party has started gearing up for the upcoming Assembly polls of Uttar Pradesh, which has been scheduled in 2022 as the party's Central Election Committee had its first meeting to decide on the names of candidates. The virtual meeting was chaired by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and was also attended by the party's General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Discussion over 50 seats was being held in today's meeting. As per the sources, the names of candidates for 44 seats has been finalized in the meeting and the first list of candidates will be released soon. Interestingly, the dates for UP Assembly polls haven't been announced yet but the party has started deciding on the names of its candidates. When asked about the matter, one of the party sources said that the party wants its candidates to start working on their respective constituencies, that is why names are getting finalized.

On Saturday morning, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra flagged off 'Pratigya Yatra' from Barabanki to take to the people various resolutions adopted by the party. Congress has already announced that 40 percent of tickets will be given to women candidates in the upcoming polls.
