Aurangabad: A young girl, deaf and dumb, who had accidentally reached Pakistan and returned to India in 2015, is now searching for her family in Maharashtra and Telangana.

Geeta, who got separated from her family after she accidentally crossed over to Pakistan around two decades ago, was brought back to India following extensive efforts made by the then minister of external affairs late Sushma Swaraj.

According to an official in Madhya Pradesh Social Justice and Disabled Persons Welfare department, an organization Anand Seva Society based in Indore takes care of Geeta.

The responsibility of finding her family has been entrusted to Anand Seva Society in Indore.

Geeta has given some information about her native place by gestures. Accordingly, her house is likely to be in Maharashtra and Telangana. Code language expert Gyanendra Purohit said that, on that basis of the inputs given by Geeta, they are visiting Maharashtra and Telangana to search for her family.

"Currently, we are in Marathwada and for the next seven days, we will be searching for her family in the border areas of Maharashtra and Telangana," said Gyanendra Purohit who is accompanying Geeta.

From her indications, experts assume that sugarcane, rice and gram are the main crops cultivated in her native village.

Meanwhile, Geeta is an admirer of famous Telugu actor Mahesh Babu. Her gestures suggest that, in her house, southern dishes like idli and dosa are made.

Geeta has indicated that a railway station is near her village and a temple on the bank of a river. Accordingly, Geeta will be brought to Nanded, Parbhani and Jalna railway station areas.

Afterwards, her family will be looked for in Telangana. A team of Madhya Pradesh women cops will accompany her in this tour. Also, the help of local police will be sought.

In the last five years, some 20 families from different parts of the country have claimed Geeta as their lost daughter. But, not a single claim has been proved true in investigation.

Maharashtra police extend helping hand

Maharashtra police have come forward to help search Geeta’s family. Senior police inspector in Aurangabad, Kiran Patil said that they are searching the records for deaf and dumb girls missing from Marathwada in the past 20 years.

The case

In her childhood, Geeta unknowingly went to Pakistan by train. Pakistani rangers found her sitting in Samjhauta express at Lahore railway station. Due to the special efforts of the then MEA late Sushma Swaraj, she could return to India on 26th October 2015. Since then, she is living in social organization in Indore and searching for her family in various parts of the country.
