Although major growth activities in the country were stalled following the Coronavirus outbreak, India has continued to emerge as a major geopolitical force. While there are several initiatives which helped the country to emerge more relevant in the geopolitical scenario, India managed to reinforce its military arsenal by indigenously developing formidable and advanced missile technologies amid repeated threats from China.

Hyderabad (Telangana): India, a regional emerging hub for military technology and has demonstrated its might this year. From Army to Air Force, from Navy to Coast Guard the country has achieved feat after feat. Let's look at the country's missile and weapon systems India has tested in 2020.

India managed to reinforce its military arsenal by indigenously developing formidable and advanced missile technologies

Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile: India successfully test-fired BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from Navy's indigenously-built stealth destroyer INS Chennai, hitting a target in the Arabian Sea.

Rudram-1: DRDO successfully test-fired the country's first anti-radiation missile 'Rudram-1', which can hit any radio frequency emitting target. It has INS-GPS navigation with Passive Homing Head for the final attack.

Prithvi-II: India successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile during nighttime from a test range in Odisha. The missile is capable of carrying 500 to 1,000 KG of warheads.

SMART: India tested Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART), a system that can hit enemy submarines when they are beyond torpedo range.

Shaurya: India successfully test-fired an advanced version of Shaurya missile which has a strike range of 700 KM to 1,000 KM and is capable of carrying payloads of 200 KG to 1,000 KG.

Nag ATGM: India carried out the final trail of the Nag Anti-Tank Guided Missile at the Pokhran field firing ranges in Rajasthan. Developed by DRDO, it can take out targets at ranges of 4 to 7 KMs.

ATGM: The indigenously developed laser-guided anti-tank guided missile was test-fired by DRDO in Maharastra's Ahmednagar. The missile employs a tandem heat warhead to defeat explosive reactive armour protected vehicles.

HSTDV: India successfully test-fired the HSTDV becoming the 4th country after US, China and Russia, to test the technology that will pave the way for developing missiles that will travel six times faster than sound.

ABHYAS: India successfully conducted the flight test of ABHYAS- High-speed Expendable Aerial Target. Developed by the DRDO, the air vehicle offers a realistic threat scenario for the practice of weapon systems.

BrahMos Extended Range Supersonic Cruise Missile: India successfully test-fired the supersonic cruise missile BrahMos which is capable of hitting targets at more than 400-KM range. The cruise missile travels at a speed of Mach 2.8.

Stand-Off Anti Tank (SANT) Missile: This missile has been successfully test-fired off the coast of Odisha. It is developed by DRDO for the Indian Air Force and will have both Lock-on after launch and Lock-on before Launch capability.

MRSAM: The maiden launch of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) Army Version from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the Coast of Odisha was successfully done. The missile destroyed the high speed unmanned aerial target which was mimicking an aircraft with a direct hit.

Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) System: In yet another flight test, the Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM) System tracked the target accurately and successfully neutralised the airborne target. The flight test, second in the series was conducted from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.

Enhanced version of PINAKA Rocket System: Enhanced PINAKA rocket, developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has been successfully flight tested from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.
