Farmers protest bare-chested in Amritsar  

A group of farmers, who squatted on a railway track in Punjab's Amritsar, went shirtless on Saturday.

Sitting on the rail track, the bare-chested protesters shouted slogans against the BJP-led central government and demanded that the farm bills be withdrawn.

 "Farmers have taken off their 'kurtas' and shirts to make the government hear our voice," Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee general secretary Sarwan Singh Pandher said.

The committee had announced on Friday to extend its three-day 'rail roko' agitation from September 26 till September 29.

The 'rail roko' agitation had started on Thursday, forcing the railway authorities to suspend the operation of special passenger trains in the state.

70 RLD workers booked for holding demonstration without permission

Uttar Pradesh: Seventy RLD workers and leaders, including its district president, were booked for holding a protest against new farm bills without permission from the administration, police said on Saturday.

RLD's district president Ajit Rathi, party spokesman Abhishek Choudhry and former MLC Choudhry Mushtaq are among the 70 people who have been booked under Section 188 of the IPC, SHO DK Tyagi said.

A case was registered against them on Friday for holding a protest outside the district magistrate's office against the Centre's farm bills without permission from the administration, he said.

Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee continues 'rail roko' agitation 

Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee continued their 'rail roko' agitation in Amritsar here, in protest against the farm Bills, recently passed in Parliament.

The Railways had cancelled various special trains running from the Ferozepur division from September 24 to 26, following the agitation which was scheduled to conclude on September 26, but has been extended by three days.

The members of the committee said the agitation will be strengthened in the coming days and would "force the government to rollback the Bills".

The protesters under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee have blocked the railway tracks by putting up a tent on the railway lines. They are raising anti-government slogans and demanded rollback of all the farm Bills at Devidaspura, a village on the city outskirts.

Similar protests against the farm legislations have been witnessed in various parts of the country including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Odisha.

Punjab: Rail Roko Agitation Against Farm Bills Extended Till September 29

Punjab: The rail roko farmers' agitation in Punjab, which was scheduled to conclude on September 26, has been extended by three days, Sarwan Singh Pandher, State Secretary of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti informed on Friday.

The Railways has cancelled at least various special trains running from the Ferozepur division from September 24 to 26, following the strike call bt farmers. The decision was taken in view of the safety of passengers and the protection of railway property.

"On September 27, members of women's groups will join the protest, while on September 28, youth will take part in the protest on the occasion of Bhagat Singh's birth anniversary," Pandher said.

"We will not allow any leaders of the political parties to address the farmers at the protest site. Our struggle will continue till recently passed farm bills are not withdrawn," he added.

Similar protests against the farm legislations have been witnessed in various parts of the country including Haryana and Odisha.

On September 17, SAD leader and Lok Sabha MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal resigned from the Union Cabinet, displaying her opposition to the three Bills.

According to the Centre, these Bills will help small and marginal farmers by allowing them to sell produce outside mandis and sign agreements with agri-business firms and doing away with stock-holding limits on key commodities.

The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 were passed by Parliament on Sunday.
