J-K police present chargesheet against Yasin Malik in Baramulla court

According to reports, police present chargesheet against Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik in Baramulla court. Malik is currently lodged at Central Jail Tihar in Delhi under a different case.

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police have presented a charge sheet against Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, in Baramulla District Court in respect of two cases lodged against him.

"Yesterday, a charge sheet was presented before Additional District and Sessions Judge Baramulla Sanjay Parihar through video conferencing. The charge sheet pertains to two cases filed against him at Police Station Sumbal are under registrations numbers of 260/2008 and 109/ 2010 under Section 13 ULA (P)," a police officer said, adding that Malik was booked by Police in 2008 and 2010 for organizing pro-freedom rallies and gatherings in Sumbal town.

Before filing charge sheet early this week, police had moved an application for issuance of production warrant for Malik by way of a video conference for filing of the charge sheet.

Malik is currently lodged at Central Jail Tihar in Delhi under a different case.

Malik appeared before the Court by way of the video conference on Thursday and he was informed and made aware that charge sheets have been lodged against him in respect of two cases. Malik was also told that he has a right to engage counsel of his choice to which he replied that he would plead the case himself.

However, the Court directed Secretary DLSA Baramulla to provide a suitable penal lawyer for an appearance on behalf of Malik so enabling him to have a fair trial and the case was listed for next hearing on July 21.
