Ten people died of COVID-19 in West Bengal in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll due to infection to 153 in the state, the health department said.

The number of active cases in the state rose to 1,407, with at least 84 more testing positive for the infection during the period, the department said its bulletin on Friday.

Gurugram administration has detected 9 more corona positive patients in different areas of the city on Friday.

With this, the total cases reached 179 including 89 active patients currently admitted in different hospitals of the district.

30 new cases reported in J&K, tally crosses 1k mark

The number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir crossed the 1,000-mark as 30 new cases were detected on Friday, officials said here.

Of the fresh cases, 21 are from the Kashmir valley and nine from Jammu region, they added.

Three woman tested positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra's Amravati district, taking the count to 93 in the region on Friday, an official said.

According to an official released from the civil surgeon's office, a 37-year-old woman from Warud town in the district tested positive for the infection.

Man tests positive for COVID-19 in Himachal's Una

A 33-year-old man in Una has tested positive for COVID-19.

"The man arrived from Maharashtra and was under institutional quarantine. He is now being sent to Haroli COVID-19 hospital," Dr Raman Kumar, CMO, Una said.

A total of 74 confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported from Himachal Pradesh as of Thursday. Out of these, 39 have been cured while two have lost their lives due to coronavirus, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

45 more COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, state tally reaches 1,032

45 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 1,032 on Friday, according to the state Health Department.

Out of the total cases, 520 patients are active while 476 patients have been discharged, as of Friday, 12 noon.

One patient who tested positive for COVID-19 died due to a non-coronavirus cause. While 35 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported in the state so far.

Over 2 lakh stranded migrants ferried in 145 special trains on Thursday

The Indian Railways operated 145 'Shramik Special' trains on Thursday and ferried home close to 2.10 lakh migrants stranded in various parts of the country amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown, officials said.

"Yesterday 145 Shramik trains were operated and nearly 2.10 lakh passengers were ferried home. As of 9 am today (Friday), 999 Shramik Specials approved, said the Ministry of Railways.

The ministry added: "As on 14th May 2020, a total of 800 "Shramik Special" trains have been operationalized from various states across the country. More than 10 Lacs passengers have reached their home State."

These 800 trains were terminated in various states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal.

1061 personnel of Maharashtra Police test positive for COVID-19

A total of 1061 personnel of the Maharashtra police, including 112 police officers, have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, police said on Friday.

Maharashtra police in its COVID-19 related action report informed that out of the total infected people, 174 have been cured while 9 have lost their lives.

As many as 85 police personnel were injured while on duty during COVID-19 related activities, and 803 accused have been arrested in cases of assault on police personnel during the lockdown period, police informed.

A staggering number of 1,07,256 cases have been registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) ever since the nationwide lockdown. A total of 20, 471 people have been arrested so far for violating lockdown guidelines,  58, 291 vehicle seized and Rs. 4,25,80,094 fine recovered from offenders.

Maharashtra is the worst-affected state due to COVID-19. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 27,524 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state including 6,059 patients who have recovered and 1,019 people who have died from the infection. (ANI)

Two infants were among 51 COVID-19 patients who recovered from the deadly infection at Kalyan taluka in Maharashtra's Thane district, an official said on Friday.

55 more COVID-19 cases in Rajasthan, state tally reaches 4,589

55 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Rajasthan, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 4,589 on Friday, said the state Health Department.

The tally includes 1,818 active coronavirus cases while 125 fatalities have been reported due to infection in the state till Friday.

The tally is also inclusive of 2,646 patients who have recovered from the disease.

4 trains to ferry migrant workers to Bihar from Greater Noida  

The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has said that four trains will ferry registered migrant workers and labourers to Bihar from Greater Noida on Saturday amid the lockdown.

District Magistrate Suhas L Y in a press note said that only those who have enrolled themselves on the Jansunwai portal will be allowed to board these trains.

No train fares for migrants coming to UP now

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now said that no money will be charged from migrant labourers for the special trains that are being arranged on the request of the state.

"The Chief Minister has decided that no money will be charged from migrant labourers coming on trains run on the state's request to the railways. For this, advance payment will be given to the railways," said Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Avanish Awasthi.

He further said that the data of all those coming in from other states is being collected and they will be given work as per their skills in the coming days.

1st train to Kerala brings home 1,000 people, 7 sent to hospitals

The first train that came into Kerala on Friday early morning after almost 50 days from Delhi brought in 1087 people, who got down at three stations.

The first stop was at Kozhikode, late Thursday and then at Ernakulam and it arrived in the state capital at 5.10 a.m. on Friday.

At all the three stations, the police and health authorities kept a close tab on all the passengers who got down and were examined in batches of 20.

School fees shall not be waived off during lockdown, says Raj HC

The Rajasthan High Court has said that the school fees during the lockdown period will not be waived off.

The Court on Thursday refused to order the waiving of fees. However, the bench also made it clear that if a parent is unable to deposit the fee on time, then the school cannot strike off the child's name from the school list under any circumstances.

The court said this during a hearing on the plea filed by one advocate Rajeev Bhushan Bansal.

The division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Sabina and Justice Chandra Kumar Songara disposed of the PIL after conducting a hearing.

Bansal in his PIL said that due to the lockdown, parents are unable to pay school fee as the businesses are shut and people are undergoing financial crisis. As private schools are non-operational, the court should put a check on the fee collections by the schools.

Random corona test of inmates in UP jails begins

After 12 inmates of the Agra jail tested positive for coronavirus, the Yogi Adityanath government has started taking random samples of inmates lodged in all the 71 jails in the state for testing.

Director General of Prisons, Anand Kumar, said random samples will be taken in all the 71 jails and the reports of the same will be compiled by the DIG jail, Lucknow who will also maintain a record of the same.

On Thursday alone, samples of 524 inmates and 29 jail staff were collected by the health teams in their respective districts. These include the temporary jails also.

New Delhi: With 3,967 new cases and 100 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 tally in India reached 81970, the Union Health Ministry stated on Friday. And two states, Goa and Manipur, which were declared COVID-19 free, have reported fresh corona positive cases.

Of the total cases, 51401 are active and 2,649 are fatalities so far while at least 27,919 people have recovered from the disease.

After being COVID-19 free for many days, Goa reported seven fresh cases, that took the total number of cases here to 14. Similarly, in Manipur a fresh case emerged after 26 days, taking the total tally in this Northeast state to three so far.

In Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases climbed to 27,524 followed by Tamil Nadu, which has reported 9,674 and Gujarat has 9,591 cases so far.

Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of deaths, 1019, followed by 586 in Gujarat and 237 in Madhya Pradesh.

At least 8,470 people in the national capital have been infected with the highly contagious coronavirus.

Other states which have reported more than 3,000 cases are Rajasthan (4,534), Madhya Pradesh (4,426) and Uttar Pradesh (3,902).

Other major states and Union Territories that have reported more than 1,000 cases are West Bengal (2,377), Andhra Pradesh (2,205), Punjab (1,935) and Telangana (1414).

Among other major states and UTs that have reported a significant number of cases are, Bihar (994), Haryana (818), Jammu and Kashmir (983), Karnataka (987), Kerala (560), Odisha (611), Tripura (156) and Chandigarh (191).

States/UTs that have zero coronavirus cases are Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

After being COVID-19 free for many days, Goa reported seven fresh cases, that took the total number of cases here to 14. Similarly, in Manipur a fresh case emerged after 26 days, taking the total tally in this Northeast state to three so far.
