Surat: It appears the people of Surat know how to turn a crisis into an opportunity. Ahead of Raksha Bandhan festival, a shop in Surat has come up with the unique idea of selling rakhis which have hand sanitizers and masks attached with them.
With just two days left for Raksha Bandhan, people are gearing up to celebrate the occasion with all positive spirits. On this day, sisters tie rakhi on the wrists of their brothers to protect them against evil influences and pray for their long life and happiness.
Local shopkeepers say they have fewer customers this festive season. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, people are cautious of stepping out of their houses to buy rakhis.
However, that didn't stop Surat designer Binny Jain from designing rakhis which have a pocket-size sanitizer bottle and a mask attached to them in place of the usual decorated flower or butterfly.
Binny Jain said: "I designed these rakhis hoping to convey a message to the public about safety measures they need to take against coronavirus."
The rakhi along with the pocket-sized sanitizer bottle and the mask costs Rs 30.
"These unique rakhis have become quite popular among people, especially women buyers prefer them over the normal ones," he said.
