Sagar (Madhya Pradesh): A case of medical negligence came to the fore in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar where doctors at District Civil Hospital declared an live man dead on Friday.
The incident came to light when police had arrived to take the body for the postmortem but surprisingly found the man alive.
The man, however, didn't live long after and died soon after the arrival of police.
The Chief Medical and Health Officer(CMHO) of Sagar conducted an inquiry after a doctor in Government hospital in Bina issued a “memo” for the postmortem of a patient who was still alive.
The Kashiram Soni, 72, who was kept in the mortuary for the whole night was found alive in the morning around 9.30.
Around 9 pm in Bina on June 20, Dr Avinash Saxena, the doctor on duty, sent an intimation to the police about the death of the old man.
The next morning, when the SHO Anil Maurya visited the hospital mortuary and was making a panchnama, he found that the man was “still breathing.” However, he died around 10.30 am.
“I was shocked and immediately called an ambulance to take him to a hospital,” Mourya said.
Dr R.S Roshan, the Chief Medical Officer, said, “Around 9.30 pm on Thursday the doctor had informed the police about the death of an elderly man who was found alive in the morning. The carelessness on the part of the doctor will be probed.”
Police said that the man was admitted to the civil hospital in Bina on June 14 after he was found lying on a road unconscious by Dial 100.
His family persons reached the hospital after his death around 3 pm on Friday. The family belongs to neighbouring Chattarpur district.
