"Indian Derby" is the nation's main horse racing event. It is observed on first Sunday of February every year. A derby is a kind of horse race that is named for the English event held at Epsom Downs Racecourse, which is known as the Epsom Derby. The race has the name of Edward Smith-Stanley, the 12th Earl of Derby, who started it in 1780.
