Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court in connection with the Excise Policy case on Saturday. Subsequently, the court ACMM granted bail to the CM on a bail bond of Rs 15,000 and a surety of Rs 1 lakh.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appeared before the Rouse Avenue Court following a summon issued to him by the court based on two ED complaints in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case.

The Rouse Avenue Court ACMM granted bail to the AAP convenor on a bail bond of Rs 15,000 and a surety of Rs 1 lakh. The court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Divya Malhotra further permitted Kejriwal to leave the courtroom. The court also directed the ED to hand over documents related to the complaints to Kejriwal.

On the other hand, AAP party legal head Sanjeev Nasiar said, "The court had summoned CM (Arvind Kejriwal). Last time he attended it through video conferencing when he was directed again he said that he would appear physically. He appeared today and submitted the bail bond. The bail was granted."

"Regarding the ED summons our stand is clear that they are not as per law and are illegal. The court will decide that now...We have full faith in the court. Whatever decision the court takes our decision will be according to that...." Nasiar further added.

In addition, Senior Advocate Ramesh Gupta said, "We had requested that the lower proceedings should be stayed...CM Kejriwal appeared today & surety bonds were accepted...The next date of the hearing is April 1..."

Advocate Madan Lal said, "It is a bailable offence & we believe that it is an unreasonable case. Our argument will happen on April 1..."

Meanwhile, the ED had filed two complaints before the magisterial court, seeking Kejriwal's prosecution for skipping multiple summonses issued to him in the case. The latest complaint pertains to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor not honouring summonses numbers 4 to 8 sent by the federal probe agency under Section 50 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The ED had earlier moved the magisterial court to seek Kejriwal's prosecution for not attending the first three summonses issued to him in the money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. (With Agency Inputs)
