Tehri (Uttarakhand): A delegation of 30 Members of Parliament (MPs) visited the Tehri Dam project on Monday. The delegation was led by Lok Sabha MP Parbatbhai Patel. The Central team first arrived at a guesthouse of Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited (THDC) located in Bhagirathi Puram. The THDC Executive Director LP Joshi welcomed the delegation.
The Central team, along with the Executive Director, inspected the power generation facility at the Tehri Dam. Besides, the Central team also inspected the Tehri Dam. After the completion of the Tehri Dam inspection, the team of MPs will be visiting Dehradun. The team is on a three-day tour of Uttarakhand.
After conducting the inspection tour, the team will prepare a report on water resources and hand it over to the Central government. With the arrival of the team of MPs, those affected by the construction of the dam were hopeful that their problems will be resolved. The MPs said that the purpose of the inspection was to study the flow of the river Ganga. The team also studied the flow of the river from Gangotri to Haridwar via Tehri Dam. How was the rehabilitation work executed for the displaced? "We also wanted to replicate the Tehri model for the construction of dams at other places in Uttarakhand as well," they said.

"The study will help us to understand and to ensure that no problem or shortcoming should arise while constructing dams in other places of Uttarakhand," the MPs added. The Tehri Dam is a multi-purpose rock and earth-fill embankment on the Bhagirathi river. The dam is situated in New Tehri, Tehri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand.
