Tamil Nadu to choose between AIADMK+BJP & Brand Stalin

Tamil Nadu will go to the polls on Tuesday to elect its next regime. A total of 3,998 candidates of which 3,585 are male, 411 female and 2 are transgenders, in the fray. This is also the first Assembly Election the state is witnessing without Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi.

Hyderabad: With the battle lines drawn, the incumbent AIADMK which is in its second consecutive term after Matinee Idol MGR’s regime is eying for a third term is banking on its ' 'Vetri Nadai Podum Tamilagam (can be loosely translated to Tamil Nadu shining)' and the principal Opposition DMK on 'Brand Stalin'.

For the Legislative Assembly with 234 seats and over 6 crore voters, Tamil Nadu will go to the polls on Tuesday (April 6) to elect its next regime.

A total of 3,998 candidates of which 3,585 are male, 411 female and 2 are transgenders, in the fray.

Karur Assembly segment has as many as 77 candidates contesting while Bhavanisagar segment has the least number of candidates - 6 contestants of which one is female.

This is also the first Assembly Election the state is witnessing without Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi.

The DMK's Rising Sun is contesting from 187 seats and this number includes the alliance partners including Vaiko's MDMK who are given the DMK tickets to contest.

DMK president MK Stalin is contesting from the Kolathur segment, his third consecutive contest from that seat and his son and youth wing secretary Udhayanidhi is contesting from the Chepauk constituency.

The rest of the seats are shared with its alliance partners including Congress which is contesting in 25 seats, CPI, VCK and CPI(M), contesting from 6 seats each, IUML from 3 seats.

AIADMK's 'Two Leaves' will put up its fight in 191 seats and the number includes the seats which it has shared with its smaller allies.

Actress Kushboo is contesting from the Thousand Lights constituency. Chief Minister K Palaniswami is contesting from Edappadi, his forte whereas his deputy O Panneerselvam is contesting from Bodinayakkanur.

Apart from this, the party had allocated PMK 23 seats and BJP 20 seats.

Besides, Actor Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) is in the fray with its founder testing his luck from Coimbatore South.

VK Sasikala's nephew and former MP TTV Dhinakaran's Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam(AMMK) is contesting in partnership with Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM and Vijaykant's DMDK.

Naam Tamilar Katchi led by actor Seeman is contesting alone in all 234 constituencies and has fielded as many as 117 woman candidates, the highest ever by any party in the state.

A coterminous byelection to Kanyakumari is also being held where former union minister Pon Radhakrishnan is contesting with a BJP ticket.

The seat fell vacant after H Vasanthakumar succumbed to COVID. His son Vijay Vasanth is fielded by Congress.
